How to Pause and Reactivate a Server

Stop a server's traffic instantly — for maintenance, an incident, or an upstream outage — without losing any of its configuration.

Steps

  1. Open the server and go to its Settings tab.

Open the capture server to document Pause and Reactivate a Server

Open the Settings tab, which contains the interface used by this procedure

  2. Find the server controls panel and toggle Pause.

Pause the server to block MCP traffic during maintenance or incidents

Reactivate the server so AI clients can call tools again

Confirm it worked

The server shows a Paused status chip, and MCP calls to it are rejected until reactivated.

To reactivate

Go back to the same panel and toggle the server back on.

Good to know

  • Pausing keeps every tool, resource, prompt, and setting exactly as it was — nothing is deleted.
  • The same panel also has a maintenance-mode option and an availability window, for more granular control than an all-or-nothing pause.
